A ‘Baby-Naming’ Ceremony is an official announcement of the chosen names and formal welcome to the newborn or young child, adoptee, step-child/children in an extended family or a foster child. Maybe an adolescent never had a naming day as a baby and now seeks a sense of unity in the family or community.
I work with parents to develop a ceremony to symbolize the love, joy, and hope this new child has brought to the family and community. It is rather a service of welcome shared by your family and friends usually held in a family home, your garden, a Reception Centre or in a local park. A baby-naming celebration is a non-religious ceremony, which enables family and friends to celebrate the joy of welcoming a new life into the world. This is an alternative to a baptism or christening, which presents the child to a Church/Religious family.
There are no legal requirements for a naming ceremony.
